Study Abroad Iceland Part 2
Part 2 of Javon's study abroad experience in Iceland. He discusses his overall experience and most importantly the food. I had a hard time selecting pictures since all of the pictures he sent me were amazing.
How was the flight?
I flew from Atlanta at 3pm to New York. My flight was delayed 5 hours; I left New York at 11pm and landed in Iceland at 9am the next day. When I returned I flew into Minneapolis before arriving back in Atlanta.
First thought when getting off the plane.
It was cold and rainy. The airport was very small. There were a lot of tourists coming into the country. Customs was not really there.
Best experience.
Worst experience.
Everything is really far apart from each other. We spent almost half of our days travelling on charter buses, but we did get to sight-see a lot of the island nation.
They spoke English better than most Americans. They learn German, English, and Icelandic in school. IT NEVER GOT DARK AT NIGHT.
Even though we went to see the Blue Lagoon, we were not able to get in the water because there is a wait-list for almost one month.
Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, is a very expensive city because they have a very high sales tax at 25%. For example, gas was almost $8 per gallon, a cheeseburger meal at a fast food restaurant was $22.
We ate mostly soups with vegetables, bread, cod fish, and pasta. There is not a lot of beef, chicken, or turkey. The hotdogs we ate were made out of lamb.
