Three Day Bahamas Cruise

I went on a three day cruise to Nassau on Carnival with my family. This was a short trip but very enjoyable. Carnival is known as the "family cruise" everyone and their children and grandparents were on this ship. One benefit of traveling on a cruise is the all you eat food option. On this cruise I was not impressed with the food options at the buffet stations and the lines were very long. Also, only certain food stations were available at certain times. I preferred the sit down dinner at the dining hall over the "all you can eat" buffet stations.  We sailed from Port Canaveral, Florida Thursday night and arrived in Nassau Friday around noon. The down fall about this three day cruise was we were only in Nassau for about 6 hours. After the excursion we booked we didn't have much time to walk around the island and shop.

Discover Atlantis

My mother, daughter, and I went on the Discover Atlantis excursion at the famous Atlantis hotel. The excursion was a walking tour of the aquarium. We were also able to walk around a portion of the Atlantis hotel. This hotel is also a high end mall and casino. Our tour guide told us a fun fact about the casino in the Atlantis, this casino unlike other casinos has windows and clocks.  During the tour our guide was explaining the story of the Atlantis, the lost city. I vaguely remember hearing about this story before; the aquarium and exhibit show the story of this lost city.

Nassau

My perception of Nassau is this is mostly a tourist island with expensive hotels and resorts. My brothers went on an ATV excursion and they said they took a tour of celebrity homes and visited a private beach. Meanwhile, my mother and I were trying to find a place to eat some good island food. Surprisingly, most of the options were pizza and burgers. The other restaurants we saw were expensive and closed during they day (they opened at night for dinner). We ended up eating at a bar that served wings and "peas and rice" (my mother was asking around the island where she can eat some rice and peas and everyone kept correcting her saying peas and rice. That's when we realized Bahamas is not Jamaica). I also noticed Nassau has cars with steering wheels on the left and right side. Every other car was different. I guess people in the Bahamas need to learn how to drive on both sides. I was able to visit the straw market and buy some hand crafted items and of course my mom and I made it to the liquor store to buy some liquor at a good price (for souvenirs).

Day At Sea

The day at sea is my least favorite part of a cruise. I wish we could've stayed in Nassau longer or visited another island in the Bahamas. Carnival does have plenty of activities to keep you busy. I loved the nightly shows. During the day the pool and hot tub stayed crowded, so crowded I didn't want to try to get in. If you haven't been on a cruise you will need extra spending money to buy all the pictures the photographers take (that you like). Every day of the cruise the gift shops had different promotions for jewelry, t-shirts, and cologne. Also if you want to buy alcohol you can get good prices on the boat and on the island. One shopping gripe I have is the candy store didn't have any good chocolate. And by good chocolate I mean not Kit Kats and Twix.

My three day Bahamas cruise was short but enough to make me feel like I had a vacation. I want to visit the Bahamas again and next time hopefully I can enjoy some Bahamian food and enjoy the beautiful and clear Caribbean beach.
