5 Days in Cartagena

Image
My family and I spent 5 days in Cartagena, Colombia for my 40th birthday. We stayed at an Airbnb inside the walled city near the Clock Tower. We went on two excursions, Palenque tour and a 5 island boat tour. Both excursions lasted the majority of the day. We also did a 20 minute horse and carriage ride in the walled city. Cartagena is full of history; the city is surrounded by forts and castles and the “devil’s” house on top of a hill. You definitely need to know a little Spanish in Cartagena, not everyone speaks English. The street vendors are very intense. You need to say a strong “no” if you’re not interested in buying anything. The best thing about Cartagena is the food. Everything we ate tasted and looked amazing, you can tell they took their time with the cooking and preparation.  Most surprising was the amount of police presence at night due to women working the night shift on the street. Most interesting was the amount of monuments of women around the city. I learned that ...

Saturday in Savannah

Image
The first time I went to Savannah, GA I was in high school visiting Georgia Southern University, which is about 40 minutes away. I automatically did not like Georgia Southern University; I thought Statesboro was the most boring town, but I loved Savannah and the local street artists and cobblestone roads. The second time I went to Savannah was last weekend after my brother’s graduation from Georgia Southern University. He obviously didn’t mind living in Statesboro for four years.   To be honest, Statesboro seemed less boring this time around. I was excited to go back to Savannah to see the local art/artists, cobblestone roads, southern food, history, and take a walk by the water. I was only here for a day, but so glad I was able to experience this city again. Maybe next time I’ll be brave enough to go on a ghost tour. Living Your Best Life In Europe and Africa

Image
One of the ways I try to live my best life is by traveling, but due to the way my life is set up (working, mothering, adulting) I don't get out that much (for now). I like to live my travel dreams vicariously through others. My cousin and his wife recently had the opportunity to travel to Europe and Africa for a few months. I'm not sure if it is possible to summarize their extensive trip, but that didn't stop me from asking my cousin a few questions about his experience. Where did you go/places visited? 2 weeks - London, Amsterdam, Rome, Cinque Terre. 3 months - Lagos,  Nigeria  About 4 days - Accra, Ghana 2 weeks after- about 1 week in South Africa (Johannesburg, Cape Town, the garden route) and about 5 days in Swakopmund, Namibia. How was the flight?  The flight going there wasn't too bad.  We had to stop in London anyway, so we made a trip out of it and stayed in Europe for 2 weeks before continuing on to Nigeria. I believ...

Daytona: Vacationing In Your Home Town with Kalesha

Image
I don't know anyone who goes to Daytona Beach, Florida more than my friend Kalesha. Every time I talk to her she is either just coming back (to Atlanta) from Daytona or planning a trip to Daytona. I don't know much about this city, so I decided to ask my Daytona Beach expert friend some questions about what she likes about her hometown.  What is the first thing you want to do when you get to Daytona? 4 words; go to the BEACH! How would you describe Daytona? Slow paced, hidden, normal, calm, nostalgic, and  peaceful. Where would you recommend people to go? I would definitely say visit Bethune Cookman University—preferably during a time where you could hear their amazing band. The city is rich with HBCU-esque history—even the local elementary, middle, and high schools mirror themselves after that style of performance and musicality. Go to the beach! You’ll love it—even try Ormond Beach if you want a little calmer vibe. Visit Na...
