Saturday in Savannah

Image
The first time I went to Savannah, GA I was in high school visiting Georgia Southern University, which is about 40 minutes away. I automatically did not like Georgia Southern University; I thought Statesboro was the most boring town, but I loved Savannah and the local street artists and cobblestone roads. The second time I went to Savannah was last weekend after my brother’s graduation from Georgia Southern University. He obviously didn’t mind living in Statesboro for four years.   To be honest, Statesboro seemed less boring this time around. I was excited to go back to Savannah to see the local art/artists, cobblestone roads, southern food, history, and take a walk by the water. I was only here for a day, but so glad I was able to experience this city again. Maybe next time I’ll be brave enough to go on a ghost tour. Living Your Best Life In Europe and Africa

Image
One of the ways I try to live my best life is by traveling, but due to the way my life is set up (working, mothering, adulting) I don't get out that much (for now). I like to live my travel dreams vicariously through others. My cousin and his wife recently had the opportunity to travel to Europe and Africa for a few months. I'm not sure if it is possible to summarize their extensive trip, but that didn't stop me from asking my cousin a few questions about his experience. Where did you go/places visited? 2 weeks - London, Amsterdam, Rome, Cinque Terre. 3 months - Lagos,  Nigeria  About 4 days - Accra, Ghana 2 weeks after- about 1 week in South Africa (Johannesburg, Cape Town, the garden route) and about 5 days in Swakopmund, Namibia. How was the flight?  The flight going there wasn't too bad.  We had to stop in London anyway, so we made a trip out of it and stayed in Europe for 2 weeks before continuing on to Nigeria. I believ...

Daytona: Vacationing In Your Home Town with Kalesha

Image
I don't know anyone who goes to Daytona Beach, Florida more than my friend Kalesha. Every time I talk to her she is either just coming back (to Atlanta) from Daytona or planning a trip to Daytona. I don't know much about this city, so I decided to ask my Daytona Beach expert friend some questions about what she likes about her hometown.  What is the first thing you want to do when you get to Daytona? 4 words; go to the BEACH! How would you describe Daytona? Slow paced, hidden, normal, calm, nostalgic, and  peaceful. Where would you recommend people to go? I would definitely say visit Bethune Cookman University—preferably during a time where you could hear their amazing band. The city is rich with HBCU-esque history—even the local elementary, middle, and high schools mirror themselves after that style of performance and musicality. Go to the beach! You’ll love it—even try Ormond Beach if you want a little calmer vibe. Visit Na...

Joy's Top 8 Learning Experiences About Traveling To The Dominican Republic

Image
I traveled to the Dominican Republic for a week in early March of 2018 and I experienced things I will never forget. I don’t know the best way to write about my experiences because so many things happened, I can’t possibly share them all. I will instead give you this list. It pales in comparison to my actual experience, but here’s a little taste. Things I learned after traveling to the Dominican Republic: 1)       I have zero street smarts. In other words, it is unwise to walk the streets of a foreign country, speaking English, with alcohol in hand. 2)       A Dominican twist on food from other countries is something I can live without. For example, Dominican sushi has plantains and my only response to that is WHY? 3)       Flushing toilet paper down the toilet is a no-no . It will clog up the toilet. Fortunately, I never had to discover that first hand. 4)    ...

Aruba! Happy Mother's Day

Image
My love for traveling comes from my mother. I’ve had a passport since I was a year old; family vacations were a regular occurrence growing up. Now more than ever my mother is always going somewhere; my brothers and I have difficulty keeping up with her. Recently my mother was in Aruba with my aunt and cousin and I was able to catch up with her about her trip. Where did you go and what did you see? We stayed at the Divi Aruba Phoenix Resort. They have very nice rooms with a balcony view of the pool or beach. Divi Aruba Phoenix has two restaurants. Pure Ocean restaurant offers a brunch buffet daily and has table seating on the beach; good food and very nice to watch the sunset while dining. You can choose to get a little dressy.  Pure Beach has beach side dining with a two piece band entertainment and pool bar; the dress code is beach casual. The resort also offers Pure Deli for a light breakfast and sandwiches. We took the bus outsi...

Disney World In One Day

Image
Every one deserves at least one birthday at the most magical place in the world, so I spent all day Saturday celebrating my daughter's birthday at the Magic Kingdom.   Birthday Girl The best part of Disney was everything! The worst part was I didn’t have time to see everything. We literally spent over 8 hours at the park. Most of our time was wasted standing in line for the rides. The next time I go to Disney World it won’t be on a Saturday. My daughter only cared about the castle. We saw the show in front of the castle with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Tiana, Rapunzel, Anna, Elsa, and Olaf. My daughter was a little disappointed when she realized you couldn't go inside the castle, you can only walk through the back of the castle.  Elsa making snow After the show we went on a few rides (Dumbo, Aladdin Magic Carpet, and the Tea Cups). I tried to ride Space Mountain, but the wait was over two hours (even after the nightly fireworks show when most people...

Girl's Trip NYC

Image
My friends Kalesha and Ashley thought it would be a good idea to take a girls trip to NYC in the middle of winter. We would only be in New York for the weekend so I thought we could make this fun and maybe catch a little snow. Living in South Florida I sometimes miss winter. We arrived in NY on a Friday; after we got settled in the hotel we decided we should go out to get something to eat. Kalesha and Ashley suggested we eat at an Italian restaurant called Barilla (just like the pasta). The food wasn't bad, but we definitely needed a second dinner afterwards. Everything was pasta After we ate we decided to explore the city. Thank goodness Kalesha brought gloves for us because I was freezing. We ended up walking around Time Square. For some reason we were trying to find Zara (the store) and got lost. Google maps failed us many times when trying to walk these New York streets. By the time we found Zara it was about to close; we ended up finding th...
